Consultant in Critical Care

Location: South East

Salary: £105,504 - £139,882 per annum (pro rata where applicable)

Role Overview: Medacs is recruiting for a Consultant in Critical Care. This role involves providing a Consultant-delivered service in the Critical Care department, assisting the Critical Care Outreach Team, and contributing to teaching and supervision of trainees. The successful candidate will also participate in the dedicated one in eight intensive care on-call rota.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide Consultant-delivered service in Critical Care.
  • Assist the Critical Care Outreach Team with critically ill patients.
  • Contribute to teaching and supervision of Critical Care trainees.
  • Participate in the dedicated one in eight intensive care on-call rota.

On-Call Arrangements:

  • Contribute to the new one in eight consultant on-call rota for Critical Care.

Commitments:

  • Comply with GMC guidance, clinical risk management processes, and infection control policies.
  • Audit clinical outcomes, report clinical incidents, and alert to risks.
  • Participate in annual appraisal and foster good team relationships.
  • Communicate effectively with all medical and service departments.
  • Undertake non-emergency work during premium time as required.
  • Respond to patient complaints in line with the complaints policy.
  • Support financial sustainability by collaborating on budget issues.
  • Provide eight weeks' notice of annual and study leave.

Teaching:

  • Participate in teaching and supervising junior staff.
  • Recruit junior staff and supervise their education, including educational contracts, regular appraisal, study leave, annual leave, and rotas.
  • Enrol on an approved educational supervisor accreditation course if newly appointed.

Research:

  • Take on the role of Principal Investigator with full training and support.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Full GMC Registration.
  • CCT Specialist Registration (or will obtain within 6 months of interview date) in intensive care medicine and one of anaesthetics, emergency medicine, or acute medicine or CESR equivalent.
  • Minimum of English Level 2 (GCSE grade C or equivalent), ILETS, or graduate of a UK Medical School.

Desirable:

  • FFICM, EDIC, FCEM, MRCP, FRCA, formal teaching or instructing qualification, good clinical practice training.

Skills and Experience:

  • Wide experience caring for critically ill adults and children.
  • Wide experience of one of: anaesthesia, emergency, or acute medicine.
  • Previous NHS experience.
  • Experience of teaching and audit participation.

Clinical Governance:

  • Experience of morbidity and mortality review.
  • Evidence of audit of own practice.

Personal/Professional Attributes:

  • Able to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Vigilant about patient and staff safety and wellbeing.
  • Able to listen and communicate clearly.

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to travel effectively between sites.
  • Uphold and model the Trust values.
