Summary
XO Barbers is the second venture from Onwards & Upwards, a charitable organisation committed to breaking the cycle of reoffending. Our first venture, XO Bikes, has successful workshops running in HMP Pentonville and HMP/YOI Feltham, and High Down in 2025 as well as a community training workshop and retail stores. XO Barbers is our next step, and we are looking for a motivated and inspiring individual who will be responsible for instructing and training prisoners by building effective, appropriate and supportive learning relationships.
XO Barbers is an innovative venture, with real opportunity for post-prison training and employment, and working in partnership with a small, beautiful and loud organisation. The training barbershop at HMP Brixton will be the keystone of this venture, and therefore a hugely exciting role.
With support from the team at Onwards & Upwards, you will be managing prisoners in a proactive manner and promoting both decency in a custodial environment, and routes to employment post release. The work contributes to sentence planning and reducing reoffending. The job holder will apply safer custody practices and comply with national and local security standards. There is responsibility for high levels of security, productivity, good order and hygiene within workshops areas.
This is a non-operational job in an establishment with no line management responsibilities.
This role is non-rotational.
