Summary
Job Purpose:
To support the SENCO in leading the provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring high-quality teaching and learning, effective interventions, and positive outcomes for all students with additional needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the SENCO in the day-to-day operation of the school's SEND policy and provision.
Support the identification of students with SEND and help coordinate appropriate interventions.
Oversee and manage provision maps, learning plans, and EHCP processes alongside the SENCO.
Monitor progress of SEND pupils and help analyse data to inform planning.
Work closely with teaching staff to ensure appropriate differentiation and support strategies are in place.
Support the coordination of external agencies (e.g. educational psychologists, therapists).
Help manage communication with parents/carers of SEND pupils.
Contribute to staff CPD and training around SEND and inclusive practices.
Deputise for the SENCO when necessary, including attending review meetings and multi-agency conferences.
Person Specification:
Essential:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
Experience teaching and supporting pupils with a range of SEN.
Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice.
Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Desirable:
National Award for SEN Coordination (or willingness to complete it).
Experience working with EHCPs and liaising with external professionals.
Experience in delivering staff training or leading interventions.
