Chesterfield Borough Council are currently looking for an apprentice to join our environmental health team.
About the role
This is a unique opportunity to study for a degree while earning a salary and gaining practical skills by working as a member of the environmental health team.
You will study with the Leeds Beckett University commencing September 2025, and on days when not attending classes, will work in the team supporting all the environmental health functions. These include food safety, health and safety at work, public health, housing and environmental protection. Building on the knowledge gained through the apprenticeship, you will develop the practical skills of an environmental health practitioner (EHP), while learning from and supporting experienced professionals.
It will be a condition of any employment offer that you are accepted onto the degree programme by Leeds Beckett University by successfully completing a skills scan. Support will be provided to liaise with the university for the application.

The successful candidate will be:

The successful candidate will have:
a level 3 qualification equivalent to 112 UCAS points, including GCSE English and Maths at grade 4 or above (or C for GCSEs taken before 2017)
an investigative and analytical approach
strong IT skills and be able to produce clear reports and case records
an alignment with our values of ‘can do’, ‘one council one team’, ‘honesty and respect’ and ‘customer focused’
if you have completed another apprenticeship or qualification, it must be at a lower level or in a completely different subject area to the apprenticeship you are applying for
if you are successful in your application, you must not be in receipt of or attending any other funded training or signed to another apprenticeship
