Summary

Lancaster University is seeking to appoint one or more Senior Teaching Associates in Architecture to join our team of dedicated staff delivering our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, to provide replacement teaching and resilience.

The Lancaster School of Architecture currently focuses on three major concerns – future practice, digital craft and the climate emergency – amongst a constellation of other interests. Situated in the North-West of England and surrounded by unique landscapes, our studio design projects and our research use these special habitats to further the practice of architecture in rapidly changing professional and ecological circumstances. Morecambe Bay, the Lake District and the Trough of Bowland are all locations within which we work. We are establishing partnerships with organisations across the region that share our vision for social and environmental sustainability. The campus at Lancaster also provides wonderful opportunities for outdoor learning and live building amongst its woodlands and open space. These landscapes, habitats and concerns characterise the emergent identity of the School.

Based within the Lancaster Institute for the Contemporary Arts (LICA), the school is associated with the world-leading Imagination research centre, which has a strong track record of innovative research around the built environment. The Senior Teaching Associate(s) will contribute to the academic delivery of, and recruitment to, the Part I (BA Architecture), Part II (MArch), and PhD programmes.

This is a fixed-term, part-time post with an expected end date of 30th June 2026. This post is to provide replacement for the teaching of a member of staff who will be working on a research project and other teaching cover. We seek cover equivalent to 0.4 FTE, which could be through one or more appointments.

Lancaster University is highly ranked for its research and gold-rated for teaching. LICA is a multi-disciplinary department whose research engages design and the creative arts with science and technology, together with a strong concern for community and sustainability. It is ranked within the top 100 globally for Art & Design. We are establishing links with industry partners in Architecture to support the education and career of our students, and to collaborate with us in addressing local and global challenges.

For an informal discussion about this opportunity, please contact Des Fagan, Head of Architecture: d.fagan@lancaster.ac.uk or Emma Rose, Director of LICA: e.rose@lancaster.ac.uk.

We welcome applications from people in all diversity groups.

Lancaster University is situated near the historic city of Lancaster. The North West of England offers high standards of living, beautiful countryside, including the Lake District, and excellent national and international transport connectivity. Jobs - Lancaster University
