Summary

JOB PURPOSE/SUMMARY The Advanced Practitioner (AP) will use specialist knowledge and skills to provide healthcare independently to patients. The AP is accountable for the total episode of care for patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed needs. The post holder will act as a role model, delivering advanced practice and promoting clinical effectiveness in care. He / she will be required to work autonomously in delivering independent assessment, clinical examination, diagnosis, clinical decision making and planning of care and treatment, diagnosis, prescribing, health promotion and safe discharge of patients. The post holder will work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team and will play an integral role in the operational/strategic development of the service. The post holder will promote and facilitate evidence-based practice and clinical audit and research within the Trust. The job holder will work as an autonomous practitioner within a defined clinical area, delivering all aspects of management and care to a wide range of patients with varying needs. The post-holder will have the freedom to take action based on their own interpretation of broad clinical/professional/administrative/technical policies potentially advising the organisation on how these should be interpreted e.g consultant, professional and managerial roles. This also applies to specialists who have the freedom to initiate action within broad policies, seeking advice as necessary. The Lead Nurse Colposcopist will: support the lead colposcopy clinician in the development and review of evidence based local guidelines, procedure, and patient information leaflets (PILs). support the lead Colposcopist in the acquisition and validation of data to support the production of quarterly and annual performance information, including the mandatory KC65 return. support, and represent the views of colposcopy nurses within the department support, and represent the views of, other support staff within the colposcopy department ensure appropriate and safe staffing levels co-ordinate the training of nursing and administration staff within colposcopy, ensuring competence within their respective roles ensure standards are maintained within the clinical environment, supporting the failsafe processes ensure the provision of an appropriate clinical environment for the day to day delivery of colposcopy that meets standards ensure nursing and administration staff within the colposcopy service meet mandatory training requirements Cervical Screening Programme Lead The CSPL is responsible for ensuring that multi-disciplinary case discussions take place in accordance with NHSCSP guidance.
