Our science helps to deliver government priorities set out in the Environmental Improvement Plan, support the transition to net zero and the management of our fisheries and aquaculture sectors outside the EU. As well as our work in the UK, we work with partners around the world.

We are seeking applicants for the role of Project Manager to work with us in the delivery of marine and freshwater science-based projects. As a Project Manager you will play a pivotal role in providing leadership to deliver wide-ranging projects. As part of this role, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management to ensure projects are delivered on time, safely, within budget, to the satisfaction of the customer and in line with our governance framework.  

You will deliver a full range of project functions such as establishing project plans, managing project risks and issues, project dependencies and managing the transition between project phases to deliver tangible project outputs. You will also manage internal and external relationships to ensure project outcomes are delivered. You will be part of a dynamic team, both as a leader of your project and part of the wider programme or portfolio team. Our work varies, so you will need to be a great communicator, adapting your style to suit a wide range of situations and stakeholders.

As a Project Manager, you will drive the delivery of a number of key activities aligned with our organisational strategic priorities:

Influencing Decisions – Enhancing Cefas’ role as a trusted global authority.

End to end project delivery, working autonomously, taking ownership of project outcomes working within and agreed governance structure.

Ensuring the customer is satisfied with the project deliverables and any issues are resolved during the project life and achieved the outcomes within the project timelines and to the agreed budget.

Ambitious for each other – Enabling our people to thrive together, delivering safely wherever we work.

Defining project resource / skill required to deliver project outcomes and providing appropriate support and challenge around the details of planned delivery activities.

Ensuring that there is significant health and safety focus of the delivery of projects in different environments (e.g. fieldwork, overseas, laboratories).

Working Together – Strengthen partnerships and community engagements to collaborate and build collective understanding.

Ensuring the customer is satisfied with the project deliverables and any issues are resolved during the project life and achieved the outcomes within the project timelines and to the agreed budget.

Identifying risks, issues and opportunities for improvement.

Promoting and supporting a positive work environment in which people feel valued, listened to, empowered, and trusted.
