Summary

To organise own specialist workload To prioritise workload of themselves and others (as required), assess performance and provide clear constructive feedback to team members To be empathetic and reassuring when communicating highly sensitive condition related information and advice to patients, carers and relatives Managerial/Leadership. Provide specialist, expert clinical knowledge to clinical colleagues, patients and carers/relatives in relation to IV management and access Undertake clinical supervision of nursing colleagues on an individual or group basis in relation to IV management and access. Evaluate service delivery, identify areas for improvement and initiate change in relation to IV management and access. Ensure the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources; make recommendations regarding supplies and equipment in relation to IV management and access. To influence and prioritise the development of knowledge, ideas and work practice in self and others To encourage others to seek advice and solutions to problems in relation to IV management and access To identify and manage challenging behaviours which may create a barrier to optimal IV management To ensure efficient and effective use of material resources/supplies To identify any problems with resource use/availability and make recommendations for corrective action which are consistent with team objectives and organisational policies Advise on product purchasing in relation to IV management Education and Development Identify learning needs, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of education to meet identified need in relation to IV management and access Participate in the education of pre and post registered nurses, and curriculum development where appropriate in relation to IV management and access Address specific health targets e.g. CQC, NSF related to own area of practice through education Ensure own compliance and compliance of others with regard to mandatory training and PREP requirements. Contribute to the development of a learning organisation alerting managers to resource issues which may affect this To participate in specialist IV education and training programmes Clinical Governance Identify need for, and undertake, research, clinical audit, benchmarking and equipment trials, in order to improve effectiveness of patient care in relation to IV management and access. Disseminate research and audit findings through presentation to professional groups and publication. Responsible for the development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines relevant to own area of work. Promote patient and public involvement activities in in relation to IV management and access leading to service improvement. Promote peoples equality, diversity and rights To ensure own actions promote quality and identify and manage any risks To lead in setting and maintaining optimal standards of clinical practice in relation to IV insertion and management To keep up to date and act consistently with quality standards and guidelines within their own clinical area and associated areas To evaluate and review the quality of their own work, and where necessary make the appropriate improvements To have an understanding of the quality agenda and how standards of care can be maintained To monitor the quality of work in own area, raise quality issues and related risks and bring to the attention of others To lead others in understanding how their practice should change to improve quality To participate in Trustwide Clinical Governance arrangements To ensure that essential information on the patients condition and progress is recorded by self and team members appropriately according to NMC guidelines. 5.
