The successful candidate will join our highly motivated Hydrometry & Telemetry Team in Lincolnshire & Northamptonshire
You will join the Hydrometry & Telemetry Team (H&T) which is responsible for the management of field telemetry equipment and hydrometric data collection, ensuring accurate and timely data and information are provided to customers of the H&T team.
• You will input, analyse, quality assure and report on data submitted by either H&T Officers or is derived from H&T systems.
• You will handle data requests from other teams and stakeholders, including FOI and EIR requests where relevant to the team.
• Whilst primarily office work there will be a need for occasional site visits, therefore you must have a willingness to work outside, often in demanding weather conditions, all year round.
• You will work both in a team of officers and alone, so must be a team player and self-motivated.
Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises, having an incident role is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and is an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment. The team
Our friendly team operates and installs hydrometric and telemetry assets and undertakes monitoring to ensure high quality data is available for customers 24/7. We work closely with other teams, share knowledge freely, develop individual strengths and utilise the latest technological advances.
Our key internal customers are Flood Coastal Risk Management and Water Resources. External customers include the Met Office and Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH).
Experience/skills required
We are seeking enthusiastic people with a passion for problem solving and good attention to detail. Qualified to an acceptable level (or equivalent experience).
Essential skills:
• Numerate.
• Experience of data management.
• Strong computer skills – Microsoft Office, Teams and other software, and able to pick up new IT systems and databases quickly
• Logical and analytical approach to problem solving.
• The ability to work at pace and effectively manage competing priorities using good judgement and decision-making abilities.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills as you will be working as part of a team and will have contact with other teams, stakeholders and the public.
Desirable skills:
• Data analysis and trend spotting.
• Data validation and quality control.
• Awareness of different hydrometric monitoring methods and the resulting data.
• Knowledge of WISKI, NEWTEL, AIMS OM and EFL
