Description
The Benefits and Housing Needs Officer - SO2 plays a crucial role in ensuring that individuals and families have access to necessary support in the areas of housing and financial benefits. This position involves assessing and processing applications for various benefits while also advising clients on their housing needs and available options. The officer will work closely with a diverse client base, including vulnerable populations, to provide comprehensive assistance tailored to their unique circumstances. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential as the officer will need to build trust and rapport with clients while navigating complex regulations and policies. In addition to direct client support, the officer will collaborate with other departments and external agencies to ensure a holistic approach to service delivery. This position requires a proactive and empathetic mindset, as it involves understanding the challenges faced by clients in securing housing and financial assistance. The Benefits and Housing Needs Officer will also keep up-to-date with changes in legislation and policy to provide accurate and relevant information to clients, ultimately working towards promoting better living conditions and financial stability for those in need.

Responsibilities
Assess and process applications for housing benefits and other forms of financial assistance.
Provide advice and guidance to clients regarding their housing needs and available options.
Collaborate with other departments and external agencies to coordinate support services for clients.
Conduct interviews and site visits to gather information about clients' situations and needs.
Manage a caseload of clients, maintaining accurate records and documentation related to their applications and services provided.
Stay informed about changes in regulations, policies, and best practices related to housing benefits.
Implement measures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and guidelines in benefit distribution.
Requirements
A degree in social work, housing management, public administration, or a related field.
Proven experience in a similar role or working with vulnerable populations.
Strong understanding of housing legislation, benefits systems, and community resources.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to assess complex situations and make sound decisions quickly.
Proficiency in using case management systems and other relevant software.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
