Summary
Job description
As required within working time directive
Have you thought about a career in a care setting? Would you like to make a positive difference to children/young people’s lives?
If so, then this is an exciting time to join Bridgend CBC as we continue to remodel the way we meet the needs of children and young people who need our support.
The homes provide placements of varying lengths to children/young people of a wide age range who (for whatever reason) cannot live with their own immediate or extended family. There are five services, all unique in what they offer and how they support in terms of length of placements, number of children able to reside at the service and the therapeutic package they are able to access.
The homes are committed to offering a stimulating, safe, caring environment that promotes a holistic approach to all aspects of the child/young person’s life.
The homes aim to:
Provide children/young people with an individualised package of support that focuses on their assessed needs.
Offer children/young people therapeutically informed interventions to assist them in achieving personal well-being.
Assist children/young people to explore their own issues and experiences and work through any emotions and feelings which may become a barrier to a stable placement and future accommodation.
Provide appropriate levels of support that recognise, value, and encourage children/young people to maintain personal skills and competencies and promote their confidence and self-esteem.
Provide a comprehensive package of educational support to promote the best possible outcomes for children/young people within their educational setting.
Work closely with families or substitute families to ensure that when children/young people return home or go to other suitable placements, adequate support via a transition plan is given to both the young person and their family to ensure success.
Provide age-appropriate independent living programmes to assist young people to be able to develop the necessary skills to enable them to, if appropriate, live independently.
Two of the five services support children with disabilities / complex health needs. These two services are closely aligned and support all ages of children up to and including 19 years of age (at one of the services). In this very important and rewarding role, you will provide all aspects of care, meeting each child/young person’s emotional, social, behavioural, health and developmental needs during their placement, in a way that ensures their dignity and promotes independence. For these two services this can include personal care tasks, including assisting with toileting, washing & dressing.
It is preferable that candidates are able to work across all five services, but we appreciate applicants’ individual skill set may be most suited to working in particular settings or services. Therefore, not being able to work across all five services will not count against applicants. Successful applicants will work in services where their skill set, and experience will best be served in terms of meeting the needs of the young people that we provide care and support for.
As a Children’s Residential Worker, you will need to be willing to complete the required induction to register with Social Care Wales and complete the required qualification for the role within an agreed timeframe as set out by the Social Care Wales qualification framework. Your duties could include covering night duties, weekend duties, sleeping-in and emergency response duties. The need to be flexible is key to this role. A commitment and positive attitude to continuous professional development is critical to ensure competence in the job role and individual development.
Do you feel that you want to be at the centre of the on-going development of this innovative approach to care? Can you work to the highest of standards, ensuring that the home remains compliant with Regulatory Requirements and support children and young people to achieve the best possible outcomes? If so, we would love to hear from you!
