Summary

Job Description Key responsibilities Act as a professional role model to junior staff and demonstrate leadership qualities Provide expert clinical knowledge and skills within the ward/department Work with the ward manager and nursing team to develop and promote best nursing practice. Work as part of the ward team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care in line with best practice. Ensure that self and other professionals adhere to infection control best practice and polies in all aspects of clinical work. Seek advice/ support as necessary from senior staff or the infection control team. Seek expert advice and support from specialist nurses when planning and delivering care to patients. Maintain accurate and clear documentation of all nursing care and communications. Communicate with patients and relatives in a sensitive manner, providing information regarding care and progress as required. Support bereaved and distressed relatives in a sensitive manner , providing information regarding care and progress as required. Adhere to patient confidentiality and data protection policies. To acknowledge clinical limitations, seek advice appropriately and act in a professional manner in accordance with the NMC Code of Professional practice Ensure that all local and trust wide policies and guidelines are complied withat all times Ensure that clinical and non -clinical risks are identified, assessed andappropriately reported and acted on. To assist the ward manager in effective resource management and to move to fill gaps if required. To clean and take appropriate care of clinical equipment and ensure timely and accurate reporting of faults to EBME. To ensure that patient data and the bed management system is updated during shift in a timely manner. To take responsibility to ensure that all trust mandatory training requirements are completed and kept updated. Ensure that a clean, tidy and safe environment is maintained for staff, patients and visitors and any concerns are reported and acted upon. To ensure that identified maintenance needs are reported via the electronic system in a timely manner. To adhere to the Working Time Directive regulations ensuring appropriate rest periods are taken. Person Specification Qualifications Essential; Registered General Nurse NMC Evidence of continued professional development Desirable; Degree level education ENB 998/MSPP or equivalent Experience Essential; At least six months post registration experience Desirable; Experience of mentoring, assessing and teaching of staff Knowledge Essential; Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) Demonstrate an ability to prioritise own workload Ability to deliver high quality nursing care Desirable; Demonstrates an awareness of clinical and organisational issues from admission to discharge. Demonstrate an ability to work as a team member. Provide evidence of competence in medical nursing skills. Sound organisational and problem solving skills. Basic IT skills use of PiMS, MW word, outlook. Demonstrates an understanding of clinical governance and risk management.
