Summary
The CPTPP team is responsible for ensuring the UK plays its full role as a member of this group, including negotiating with other economies who wish to join.
The team also leads UK engagement in CPTPP Ministerial level and Senior Official level meetings and the work to prepare for that, ensuring we play an active role in CPTPP. This includes through participating in the General Review of the agreement and in Trade Committees and contributing to work on future CPTPP accessions.
The team also leads on implementation of the UK’s CPTPP accession, which includes managing our approach to public and stakeholder engagement, including all public communications.

We are looking for a driven candidate to support on the UK’s negotiations with economies who wish to accede to CPTPP.
Currently, we are negotiating with Costa Rica, but we expect negotiations to begin with other economies in due course.
This role would be ideal for you if you have a strong interest in international affairs, enjoy working with others, and are keen to work on a high profile and fast-moving project.
You will be working with one G7 and one HEO. There will also be opportunities to deputise for your line manager.
We may have other future roles available in the team too.
Job Description/Key Accountabilities
- Support on the development and delivery of the UK’s CPTPP accession negotiations with Costa Rica.
- Work directly with the other 11 CPTPP members to ensure the group’s negotiations approach is collaborative and consistent.
- Manage relationships across DBT and HMG with key stakeholders including internal Chapter Leads, FCDO (including Post), HM Treasury, Cabinet Office and No10.
- Support on briefing Ministers and senior stakeholders on negotiations.
- Work as part of the UK CPTPP Secretariat, responsible for all international engagement relating to CPTPP.
- Corporate contributions to the CPTPP team and beyond at Directorate / DG / Departmental level.
- Other tasks could also involve support on other UK CPTPP priorities.
