Looking to build a career in payroll with hands-on experience and guaranteed progression? Join our NHS payroll team as a Payroll Apprentice on a permanent contract, with automatic promotion to Payroll Officer (Band 4) upon successful completion of your apprenticeship.

What You’ll Do:
• Assist with payroll processing, ensuring accurate payment for NHS staff. Handle payroll changes, calculate salaries, and audit payments in line with NHS regulations.
• Act as a key contact for payroll queries, delivering excellent customer service.
• Work alongside experienced payroll professionals, gaining valuable skills.

Eligibility:
• UK/EEA citizen or have lived in the UK for 3+ years.
• Not enrolled in any other government-funded training programme.
• An apprenticeship does not meet the Home Office requirements for sponsorship to work.

Apprenticeship Details:
• Duration: 15-18 months
• Study Time: 6 hours/week (during working hours)
• Hours: 37.5 hours per week, with 2 days of remote work once competent.



To work within a team of payroll officers and payroll support officers ensuring an accurate payroll is produced according to defined deadlines, adhering to statutory and NHS terms and conditions.

To process all variations to pay, and check accuracy of payments madethrough calculating, auditing, evaluating and verifying changes to pay. To ensure changes do not breach local, national or statutory regulations. This includes both basic and complicated calculations.

To provide initial point of contact with staff and to answer general queries in relation to payroll issues, which are commensurate with the responsibility and level of the post, seeking advice as required.
