Holds an appropriate driving license and has the ability to drive to different locations.
Skills & Experience:
HNC/D in Civil Engineering (pre-1999 intake) or related discipline OR BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering (post 1999 intake) OR NVQ Level 6 in Civil Engineering OR other qualification certified by the Engineering Council UK as academic base for Incorporated Engineer status
Engineering Technician status OR Further progression with Membership of the Institute of Highway Engineers (MIHE)
Demonstrate understanding in the use of technical software appropriate to the role (eg Microsoft programs, AutoCAD, MX)
Must have a minimum 2 years’ design and construction supervision experience in Traffic Engineering, UTC, Highway Structures or Highway Engineering disciplines.
Demonstrate project planning and management skills.
Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office suite and other technical software appropriate to role (e.g. AutoCAD)
Able to analyse and interpret relevant data / information
Able to identify, develop and design Highway and Transportation Improvement Schemes
What's involved with this role: You will support the delivery of highway and civil engineering projects by assisting with feasibility studies, design, public engagement, inspections, procurement, and project management. Your role spans across traffic management, structural works, public transport, and construction supervision for both internal and external clients.
Key duties:
Provide expert advice by applying analytical skills to solve complex engineering and procurement challenges, including legal agreement improvements with third parties.
Review technical information from internal and external sources—such as design documents, surveys, audits, and proposals—to ensure compliance with engineering standards and Council requirements.
Deliver feasibility studies and concept designs for transport and civil engineering projects, preparing technical documents like calculations, budget estimates, and project briefs in line with quality procedures.
Design and support delivery of engineering schemes, including traffic management, casualty reduction, lighting, structures, and resurfacing projects, tailored to both new works and maintenance.
Manage contracts and oversee construction works, ensuring quality, safety (including CDM regulations), and project compliance while acting as the Engineer’s Representative as appropriate to your role.
