Set up and maintain ultrasound equipment Perform ultrasound examinations on patients as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multiprofessional team, meeting professional, departmental and legal standards and requirements. Produce images resulting from the ultrasound examinations Interpret ultrasound images to aid patient diagnosis Carry out training on ultrasound equipment for other healthcare professionals Address patients concerns before, during and after ultrasound examinations Keep up to date records of scans performed and images produced Refer patients to other healthcare professionals and facilities, when necessary Soothe and reassuring nervous or anxious patients To assess and justify referrals under Ionising Radiations (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2000, (IR(ME)R2000), following practitioner guidelines. To independently assess each patient and adapt techniques according to the needs of the patient. To vet within guidelines and assess referrals as required. To supervise junior staff, and act as a mentor for newly qualified staff. To relate to all patients with understanding and care, respecting their privacy and dignity to provide acaring and confidential service. To perform intravenous contrast agent injections when required, subject to satisfactory completion of arecognised course of training To demonstrate dexterity, accuracy, and attention to detail in the preparation of specialist equipment forprocedures to be undertaken within the unit whilst adhering to CDC policies e.g., intravenous drugadministration, taking blood samples. To manage own workload and organise departmental workload when necessary. To supervise areas of the department in the absence of more senior staff
