Summary


Clinical Fellow, The Fertility Centre

An exciting opportunity has arisen within The Fertility Centre at Chelsea and Westminster NHS Foundation Trust for an experienced Clinical Fellow. The position would provide an opportunity for the successful candidate to develop advanced clinical competence in the management of infertility and assisted conception, supervised by Mr Dimitrios Nikolaou and the other fertility Consultants.

The clinical role involves day to day assessment and management of infertility, ultrasound scanning, assisted conception procedures and outpatient clinics. The duties of this post would include, among else, coordination of clinical, teaching and research meetings, maintaining ongoing audits and clinical guideline development. Previous experience and basic competency gynaecology ultrasound is desirable but not essential. The appointment is for 12 months subject to a satisfactory review at 6 months.



·Being present and prepared each morning for the briefing sessions lead by the consultant for the day. This preparation includes knowing the patients for the planned procedures.

·The post holder will be competent in providing transabdominal and transvaginal scanning.

·The post holder will be present and prepared for the multidisciplinary team meetings. This includes preparing patients for presentation and discussion, knowing the details of their case and arranging for the appropriate professionals, (urologist, endocrinologist etc.) to be present or their contribution to be presented during the meeting. Also recording the findings in the medical records and writing the patients as necessary.

·The post holder will be responsible for setting up and coordination of fertility treatments, especially IVF.

·Organising and managing the NHS funding of fertility treatment in collaboration with the patient liaison officer. This includes completing and submitting application forms for funding.

This full time post will be crucial for the day to day running of the unit, with intimate knowledge of the care of the patients. The work will be mainly clinical work in the fertility unit, but also sessions in the gynaecology fertility clinics.

The post holder will liaise very closely with the consultants and their NHS and private secretaries to facilitate and coordinate the journey of each patient.

There is no on-call component for this post the hours are Monday – Friday 0900-1700.

Duties will include:

• Trans abdominal and transvaginal scanning
• Being present and prepared for the multidisciplinary team meetings. This includes preparing patients for presentation and discussion, knowing the details of their case and arranging for the appropriate professionals, (urologist, endocrinologist etc.) to be present or their contribution to be presented during the meeting. Also recording the findings in the medical records and writing the patients as necessary.
• Setting up and coordination of fertility treatments, especially IVF.
• Organising and managing the NHS funding of fertility treatment in collaboration with the patient liaison officer. This includes completing and submitting application forms for funding.
• Database update and clinical audit including the database for the Reproductive Ageing and fertility preservation programme. It is an essential part of the job to maintain databases according to the instructions of the supervisor, PR and service director..
• To review all patients of the Unit who have been admitted as inpatients on the gynaecology ward on a daily basis. The coordinator will see these patients at least once a day and keep the consultants up to date.
• Outpatient sessions in general infertility and IVF
• Participation in the Quality Management program within TFC is a fundamental part of the post holder’s duties.
• Performing some procedures in the treatment room, such as saline scans, endometrial scratch and intrauterine insemination. There will also be opportunities for training in egg collection and HyCoSy.
• Ensure the continued running of the service.
• Maintaining the spreadsheet with the staff allocation for clinics and treatment room (rota) and liaising with the appropriative administrators for booking clinics and theatres.

The post holder will be responsible to the consultants who form the clinical lead team, i.e. Mr Nikolaou Mr. Norman-Taylor and Miss Kate Maclaran and accountable to Mr Dimitrios Nikolaou.

The post-holder will always be supervised, either directly or indirectly and will always report to the nominated Consultant for each session, wither outpatient or theatre.

A formal review of clinical progress will be carried out at regular intervals using the unit’s competency tool.
