Summary
The neonatal clinical support worker will prioritise the workload, and participate in nursing procedures following instruction / education and at the discretion of a qualified Neonatal Nurse/Midwife. This includes: Carrying out regular observations of temperature, pulse, respirations and heart rate. This also includes oxygen saturation rate when requested. The findings should be recorded on the observation chart and reported to the Neonatal Nurse responsible for overall care of the neonate. Undertaking blood tests on neonates for: - monitoring of glucose levels in babies on the BM protocol - Serum bilirubin levels - Newborn Blood spot screening test Undertaking naso/oro-gastric tube feeding. The opportunity exists to develop this competency following training and assessment. Collection of microbiology samples as requested, such as eye swabs, urine and stool samples. Assist Registered Nurses/Midwives and mothers in caring for babies undergoing phototherapy.
