Summary


To assist the imaging modalities, and other Clinical staff, in the Radiology Department in the reception and care of all patients. To undertake a range of healthcare and clerical duties within the limits of their competencies.

1. Assist with the organisation, delivery and evaluation of Clinical care for patients within the department.

2. Ensure that patients and visitors are welcomed and received into the department and assist in their orientation

3. Undertake basic Nursing care for patients within the department within the limits of their competencies, to include terminally ill, disabled, elderly and confused patients, and children.
• To work independently to organise, co-ordinate and prioritise own daily workload.
• To communicate with patients, relatives and visitors verbally, face to face, by telephone and using the computer. This will include patients whose first language may not be English. Show complete consideration for the privacy and dignity of the patient, especially when acting as a chaperon.
• To take phone calls from patients or ward staff or for clinical staff and deal with messages competently.
• To work as a member of the inter-disciplinary radiology team, inter-acting and liaising with colleagues, patients and public. Verbally support them in potentially embarrassing and distressing situations. Ensure the continuation of the highest standards of patient care.
• Assist with the clerical duties within the clinical environment, including ensuring list of scheduled patients is available at the start of each clinical session, and appointment making for in-patients.
• To report any change in patient condition which may occur to supervising staff where appropriate.
• To be responsible for the correct identification of patients, using the departmental policy. Assist patients to change and escort them to the appropriate area of the department as required.

• To assist patients to maintain their personal hygiene, to include toileting and the safe handling and disposal of body fluid.
• To take and record blood pressure and pulse rate of patients undertaking interventional procedures within the range of their competencies.
• Ensure infection control methods are upheld within the clinical environment
• To be able to assess patient condition on arrival and adapt care accordingly dependant upon age, well-being and clinical need. Demonstrate empathy and reassurance.
• To be aware of the limitations of their role and seek specialist assistance as necessary.
