Cheshire and Wirral Partnership Foundation NHS Trust are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist.

This is a replacement post. The post holder will cover Beech Ward in Bowmere Hospital, Countess of Chester site, Chester 1.0 WTE

Beech Ward is a mixed sex 22 bedded acute functional mental health ward for adults of working age. It has a fully functional MDT with input from resident doctors including an SAS doctor, core and foundation trainees, Psychology, OT, and Pharmacy.

The consultant will participate in the West Consultant Psychiatrist on-call rota. On call rota is of low frequency and not less than one in 13.

Beech Ward provides Acute Care Mental Health Input for patients presenting with various forms of mental disorders including affective disorder, psychosis and personality disorder. Patients will present both informally and detained under the mental health act

The post-holder will be responsible for delivering consultant psychiatric input to patients referred to and admitted to Beech ward and provide medical input into SPA, in line with the agreed Acute Service Operational Policy. This includes:

· To provide senior medical input to Beech ward patients, ensuring safe and timely service provision for service users.

· To take Consultant and RC responsibility for service users in Beech ward.

· To provide intensive and expert intervention and management of service users with acute, chronic and severely enduring mental illness in line with the acute inpatient care pathway.

· To work flexibly and creatively as part of a multidisciplinary team promoting informed risk taking and anti-discriminatory practice.

· To liaise with both internal and external interfaces concerning admissions and transfers/discharges.

· To liaise with the Consultant Psychiatrists working in the inpatient and community settings concerning admissions and transfers/discharges.

· To offer expert risk assessment and management skills.

· To ensure that a high quality safe clinical service is provided to all service users by working in partnership with MDT, ward manager and other senior managers.

· To ensure excellence in the provision of medical and psychiatric assessments to all referred
