Summary


This Clinical Fellow post in Neurology and Neurological Rehabilitation is an exciting opportunity to work within an excellent multidisciplinary team and build a unique skillset in Neurological Rehabilitation. The post is of particular interest for doctors who wish to pursue a career in Neurology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Stroke Medicine, Neuropsychiatry or a related specialty. The duties of the post are based at the Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (RNRU). The Clinical Fellow will be supervised by Dr Nikos Gorgoraptis, Consultant Neurologist.

The Clinical Fellow will contribute to the acute and overall medical care of the RNRU inpatients. They will be supervised by Dr Gorgoraptis, Consultant Neurologist, and by the Specialist Registrar in Neurology. Communication and liaison with the other disciplines within the unit and the fostering and encouragement of a team approach are regarded as essential components of the post’s responsibilities.

Timetabled duties of the post comprise medical clerking of newly admitted patients

The RNRU has 27 beds and provides a specialist regional service for younger patients with severe complex disability after single incident neurological damage, often due to vascular or traumatic brain injury.

The post operates as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in conjunction with the Specialist Registrar in Neurology in the RNRU.

Training in Neurology and Neurological Rehabilitation, particularly after brain injury, will be emphasised in the RNRU. The Unit emphasises the effectiveness of an integrated multi-disciplinary team. The post provides excellent experience in managing the physical, psychological and social problems arising in a young, multicultural patient group, and the post holder will gain an understanding of the long-term needs of people with complex physical and cognitive disability.
