Summary


This post will support the treatment of prostate and testicular/ germ cell patients under the care of the uro-oncology team in Sutton. The post also has one day per week of AOS consultant cover in Sutton.
Around 1000 patients are referred to the Sutton uro-oncology team per year, with around 550 radical prostate treatments conducted annually. The practice is wide ranging and includes complex radiotherapy planning, palliative radiotherapy, SBRT, adaptive and MR-guided radiotherapy, palliative chemotherapy, androgen-targeted therapies and radioisotopes for prostate cancer and chemo- and immunotherapy for bladder cancer. The unit is a supra-network centre for testicular cancer with a weekly MDT serving the South East. We regularly see relapsed and complex oncological and surgical cases. Active involvement in research and participation in clinical trials is expected and collaborative working with colleagues both nationally and internationally.
The post holder will join a 1 in 3 rota participating in consultant ward round cover for our Sutton site, providing consultant review of uro-oncology inpatients. The exact configuration of ward cover will be delineated between the 3 consultants, with attention to the experience and skill set of the successful candidate.

• To participate in and support the multidisciplinary care team which includes Clinical and Medical Oncologists, Surgeons, the relevant junior team, Specialist Nursing Staff, Radiographers, and Macmillan support workers.
• Contribution to research activity is expected.
• To participate in each of the multidisciplinary meetings.
• As a senior member of the medical team, the postholder, will provide clinical leadership and support for the effective development of the services and to attend the relevant operational meetings.
• The postholder will contribute to the development of the departmental objectives and business plan and will manage resources within the approved plan. The consultant will be part of the Cancer Services Division and will be responsible to the Divisional Director for Cancer Services.
• To participate in the Consultant Clinical or Medical Oncology on-call rota (approximately 1 in 30 weeks non-resident on-call).
