Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Clinical Fellow (FY2-ST1) to work as part of the General Surgical team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site. The post will provide training opportunities in Breast, Vascular, Upper GI and Lower GI surgery. The post holder will be responsible for the care of inpatients and day patients under the direction of the Consultant Surgeons including elective in-patient and day case surgery, general and specialist out-patient clinics and regular ward work. The Department has a commitment to the career progression of Career Grade Doctors and skills required for specialist aspects of the post which will be developed within the post, particularly working towards passing the MRCS examination if not already held. The post would suit a surgeon who has worked at foundation or core surgical training grade for at least 2 years who wishes to continue to maintain and gain experience in a variety of general surgical specialties. The successful applicant will provide a clinical service at FY2-ST1 level, working closely with the Senior Clinical Fellows/Deanery trainees, Clinical Fellows/CTs and Foundation doctors under the supervision of the Consultants. The successful applicant will participate in the general surgery 1:8 resident on-call rota which forms part of a dedicated emergency surgery team led by a dedicated emergency consultant. We have had excellent feedback regarding the training opportunities in emergency surgery that this rota provides. Applicants must have full registration with the GMC, and a minimum of 2 years experience working in General Surgery foundation or core training equivalent positions. This is an exciting time to join the surgical department as we develop a wider clinical community and focus on expanding our surgery services. The future for clinical services will provide the ideal opportunity for innovation and developing new approaches to patient care across a wide catchment population. Being part of a wider clinical community will also provide greater opportunity for professional development. See separate JD for specifics.
