Summary

The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) supports businesses to invest, grow and export, creating jobs and opportunities across the country. We are focused on opening new markets for businesses by removing barriers and striking trade deals. The Team for Financial and Professional Business Services (FPBS) sits within the Business Group. The Group holds a bold vision to be the centre of expertise for UK sectors, driving business growth at the heart of the economy. The FPBS Team works collaboratively with industry and across government to ensure the UK’s FPBS sector is best placed to capitalise upon international trade and investment.

FPBS scopes, develops and promotes market opportunities, engaging a diverse range of stakeholders with the aim of increasing the growth of the sector. The Financial Services branch of FPBS covers several sectors: Banking, Capital Markets and Asset Management, FinTech and Insurance. The FPBS Team are based across the UK and work closely with other government departments, particularly HM Treasury, as well as the UK regions and Devolved Administrations.

Insurance has long been a pillar of economic resilience, enabling growth and stability through times of change. The UK remains the world’s largest commercial, and specialist (re)insurance market and the sector can play a fundamental role for economic growth.

This is an exciting opportunity to help drive the continued growth of an important sector, for the wider economy insurance provides resilience to enable growth across all UK companies. Of particular importance is the sector’s solutions to climate change, cyber vulnerabilities, trade and supply chain uncertainties. This is an interesting, fast-paced and dynamic HEO role with three key components:

  • Cross-government and external engagement
  • Support Ministerial engagement
  • Hands on delivering on key commercial activities to support exports and FDI

You will support the Head of Insurance to drive DBT’s global insurance strategy towards key markets. You will be a cooperative team player able to build alliances and work across the Department and Whitehall to ensure optimal outcomes.

Also, Insurtech is an exciting part of the fintech scene, with AI driving modelling of big data sets (such as climate information) in a time of massively increased volatility. Parametric insurance, for example, may lead to new ways of risk sharing and climate resilience. You will be entrepreneurial working with tech companies to open new channels of development for the sector.

Line Management Responsibility: No.
