Summary
A Vacancy at Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.
An opportunity has arisen for a 0.8WTE Practitioner Psychologist to join our transplant teams across Renal Live Donor (0.4WTE) and Heart & Lung Transplant (0.4WTE) based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The Renal Live Donor Transplant service works with patients on a living donor transplant pathway requiring psychological assessment and follow-up as part of their transplant work-up and care. The Heart and Lung transplant service works with patients with advanced heart failure and respiratory disease. Patients who are not suitable for heart transplant at the time of their assessment, may be offered a Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) as a bridge to transplant. As a psychologist, your role will be to consider how to offer a timely and effective service to meet the differing needs of the patient populations across the patient pathway, with an emphasis on pre-transplant psychological assessment and follow-up psychological intervention.
You will ideally have experience of working in physical health settings, but our principal aim is to recruit a psychologist with the right passion and skills to support a quality service. There is ample opportunity to offer direct psychological interventions, whilst working collaboratively with the MDT.
The role provides an exciting opportunity to collaborate with other psychologists nationally. You will be a valued colleague in our Clinical Health Psychology Service and the Psychological Professionals workforce at BSMHFT.
You will need to be able to demonstrate an understanding of the psychological impact of heart and respiratory failure, renal transplant and how pre-existing vulnerabilities may impact upon the impact of such physical health difficulties. You will be required to work flexibly across outpatient and inpatient settings. You will be working closely with doctors, nurses and allied health professionals to provide high quality care, and you will need strong skills in consultation, supervision and teaching as part of our multidisciplinary teamwork. This role will require face-to-face work, as well as skills in being able to deliver psychological assessment, including pre-surgical assessment, psychological interventions and teaching in a variety of formats, including via the telephone and video link.
Our mission is to provide excellent psychological care and support for patients and staff, which is compassionate, inclusive and committed. If you thrive on challenge, creativity and a dynamic and supportive work environment, in which psychological thinking is highly valued in the wider multi-disciplinary teams, along with the opportunity to shape the future of the service, this is the job for you.
You would be working under an 8B Practitioner Psychologist lead for each service. Based on experience, this 0.8WTE post can either be offered at a Band 8a or a Band 7/8a Preceptorship arrangement. Applicants from final year trainees in a Preceptorship arrangement are welcome.
