Summary
To assist patients in preparation for, and whilst undergoing, routine and specialised radiographic examinations. Establish and maintain a good communication channel with patients to support patient confidence. To observe and care for patients whilst waiting for examinations and communicate any concerns to trained staff as appropriate. To check patient identification and documentation in accordance with departmental protocols and clinical requests. Assist Radiologists, sonographers, registrars and Nurses in performing these examinations, attending to patients welfare at all times. Support service delivery to co-ordinate workflow and support facilities within specialised areas. Maintain a clean, safe environment ensuring adherence to Trust standards of cleanliness, hygiene and infection control at all times. Clean and perform routine operational maintenance on equipment as required, participating in the departmental Quality Assurance programme. To be familiar with, understand and apply the principles of Radiation Safety, both nationally and locally regulated or protocol led. To participate in the 'Out of Hours' rosters, in line with the departmental agreement to support full 7 day service delivery as part of contracted hours. To facilitate communication between the department and all service users, patients, relatives, staff and external users, including any adherence to Trust policies, including participation in annual appraisal/review systems. Communicate with patients and professional colleagues in situations that may be traumatic due to pressures of work or where the patients condition may be a barrier to comprehension and compliance, e.g. Claustrophobia, learning difficulties or injury traumatised. To assist with the practical experience of newly inducted staff. Ensure in house stock movement, especially specialist room stocks, and linen handling according to infection control standards.
