Summary
Role Profile Simulation Ward Technician (Healthcare) Salary: Band 2 Working Hours: Full Time 35 hours per week (32 hours over four days during 4-day week pilot) Reporting to: Senior Facilities & Contracts Manager (dotted line to Programme Manager/Senior Lecturer Nursing & Public Health) Direct reports: None Overall purpose/accountabilities:Provide comprehensive technical support service to support daily operations associated with the Simulation Suite for Nursing programmes at the University of Sunderland in London (UoSiL). The Sim Suite Technician is responsible for the setup, operation, maintenance, and breakdown of simulation equipment, managing stock, ensuring delivery of simulation-based training by managing technical aspects and supporting faculty, staff, and learners in the simulation environment. Deliver and champion excellent customer service to all stakeholders at all times. Job Description Ensure that all the necessary resources (materials, solutions and equipment) in the Simulation Suite are available and ready to use for student classes, student projects, research and external activity work. Show, assist and advise students and staff in the safe use and operation of equipment/apparatus and to carry out a range of processes, procedures and techniques and operate equipment as required by the management. Operate and maintain the Sim Ward day to day activities according to the timetable also accommodating last minute changes, documenting planned and ad hoc activities for audit purposes. Assist in the training of staff on best practices in simulation technology and operations, including new equipment, promoting and enforcing safe simulation practices to ensure high-quality educational experiences for students and staff. With the support of the management, oversee the management, tracking, and updating the supplies and simulation assets to ensure optimal availability for students and staff. Coordinate the procurement process, ensuring timely ordering and cost-effective acquisition of necessary materials according with the Universitys procedures. Support IT colleagues in technical maintenance of the equipment and software used in the Simulation Suite when required. Ensure full compliance with Health and Safety legislation, university policies, and regulations. With support from the H&SE team, develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and risk assessments for simulation rooms and equipment operation. Utilise, maintain, and troubleshoot clinical equipment such as IV pumps, ventilators, hoists, beds, standard defibrillators, and automated external defibrillators (AEDs). Ensure all clinical equipment is functioning correctly and safely within the simulation environment. Prepare and apply moulage, including simulated injuries, wounds, bruising, and other medical conditions, to standardised patients and simulators to enhance realism in training scenarios as required. Assist in the creation, revision, and documentation of simulation case scenarios, setup procedures, and best-practice guidelines. Ensure tidiness and cleanliness of the Simulation Suite. Oversee the integration of new equipment and ensure its proper implementation. Provide support to wider Facilities & Events team when required/able to. Attend any mandatory training, including train the trainer, and identify and participate in continuous professional development as appropriate. Other factors: A flexible approach to work is required with some evening and weekend working required on occasion. Annual leave may be restricted at certain times of the year to accommodate business needs. All necessary Health & Safety training will be provided if needed.
