We're looking for a Library Officer to join Chichester Library!

Our libraries deliver essential community-based support, promoting the benefits of reading for everyone, offering a quality, trusted information service, bridging digital inclusion through supporting safe access to online resources, and curating a programme of events and activities that meet the needs of targeted audiences.

Salary: £28,624 to £31,067 per annum, £27,076 to £29,387 (pro rata for part time) and receive Saturday Enhancement to working 7 hours 35 minutes for 1 in 2 Saturdays.

Contract Type: Permanent

Working Pattern: 35 hours per week. This role requires the successful candidate to work a shift pattern, Monday to Saturday.

Location: Chichester Library, Tower Street Chichester, PO19 1QJ

You will need to be able to travel independently around the county, including to areas that may not be easily accessible by public transport. Pool cars and pool bikes available (subject to availability).

About the job

Chichester is a busy, friendly library in a circular Grade 2 listed building located in the city centre near the cathedral and the Novium Museum. The library proudly showcases regular community art displays and gatherings.

As a Library Officer, you will maintain the front-line service and supervise the library team ensuring a high level of customer care.

The role demands exceptional people management skills, a strong understanding of a library or customer service environment, and a keen ability to organize both staff and resources effectively.

You will be considered a subject matter expert in co-ordinating teams of dedicated library staff, addressing often challenging queries from the public, and ensuring that our libraries run smoothly and efficiently.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Library Manager and other senior library staff to passionately plan and deliver the service, and they may also find themselves engaged in inspiring county-wide projects and initiatives.
