Cleaning Supervisor
JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: School Cleaning Supervisor
HOURS: 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday 15:30 to 19:30; 52 weeks per year (preferably) but could be term time only e.g. 39 weeks per year
SALARY: Range 3 FTE £28,129 to £30,174 depending on experience. Estimated actual salary (based on 52 weeks) £14,896 - £16,310 approximately.
REPORTING TO: Site Manager
MAIN PURPOSE
The cleaning supervisor is responsible for leading a team of cleaning operatives to ensure a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene is maintained throughout the school. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and organisational skills to deliver a safe and healthy environment for pupils and staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As cleaning supervisor:
• Under the direction of the site manager, undertake the daily operational supervision of the team of cleaning operatives.
• Maintain health and safety and risk assessment standards, reporting any failures to comply with the site manager.
• Arrange work schedules, managing cover for absence of cleaning operatives.
• To submit cleaners’ weekly time-sheets to the Finance/HR Office.
• Monitor cleaning duties, carrying out quality audits and monitoring performance.
• Conduct performance appraisals of the team of cleaning operatives.
• Take part in the recruitment and selection process for new cleaning operatives.
• Induct and train new members of the cleaning team and provide toolbox talks to the existing team.
• Monitor, manage and authorise annual leave of cleaning operatives to ensure the appropriate staffing levels are maintained.
• Following periods of sickness absence, complete return to work meetings, and ensure the appropriate documentation has been received.
• Manages replenishment of stock of cleaning products, in liaison with the site manager
• Manages replacement of cleaning equipment, in liaison with the site manager
• Oversees and ensures the safe use, care and storage of equipment and materials.
• Identify staff training needs.
• Oversee the locking up of the school buildings at end of the session and setting alarms.
• Undertake cleaning of allocated areas in line with specified standards and as directed.
• Operate domestic and industrial cleaning equipment and materials, following appropriate training.
• Oversee and undertake the safe and secure storage of allocated equipment and materials
• Perform duties in line with health and safety regulations (COSHH) and act where hazards are identified, reporting serious hazards to line manager immediately.
• Oversee and undertake collection and disposal of waste.
• Oversee and undertake refilling and replacement of soap, towels, and other materials.
• Oversee and undertake additional cleaning schedules during school closures or other designated periods.
The duties and responsibilities listed above describe the post as it is at present. The post holder is expected to accept any reasonable alterations that may from time to time be necessary.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITES
• Promote, act as a role model, and implement the Grange School’s policies, practices and procedures including those relating to equality and diversity.
• Read and follow the relevant school policies.
• Undertake training required to develop in the role.
• Undertake Emergency First Aid at Work training.
