The role
As an Assistant Project Manager, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. Devonport is leading a bold infrastructure programme to support future MOD ship and submarine operations. The Major Infrastructure Projects (MIP) Business Unit is delivering state-of-the-art docking and berthing facilities for Astute Class submarine maintenance. Be part of this groundbreaking transformation.

Day-to-day, you'll oversee the delivery of service subways and heavy civils infrastructure designs. Collaborating with users and stakeholders, you'll ensure the integrated facility is equipped to deliver essential sustainment capabilities.

  • Assist the Project/Package Manager in managing facility design contracts, including schedules, scope, finances, risks, and documentation.
  • Support technical and project teams in defining requirements, scope, and solutions for work packages.
  • Translate supply chain reports into actionable data and manage cost/budget inputs.
  • Develop and implement stakeholder management and communication plans.
  • Oversee risk processes, including identifying, assessing, planning, and addressing risks, opportunities, and issues.


This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements.

Essential experience of the Assistant Project Manager

  • Proven experience managing heavy civils/building design packages, preferably with client-side NEC4 contract exposure.
  • Familiarity with highly regulated environments (ideally Nuclear) and complex document management systems.
  • Extensive experience in the heavy civils construction industry.
  • Experience with Nuclear safety-related structures, equipment, or services on Nuclear Licensed sites is advantageous.

Qualifications for the Assistant Project Manager

  • A Bachelors or Master's Degree.
  • APM project management qualification PFQ/PMQ (or equivalent).
  • NEC4 Accredited Project Manager - Desirable

Security Clearance
The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Security Check (SC) / Developed Vetting (DV) / Counter Terrorist Check (CTC) / Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
