Teaching Assistant - Make a Difference at an SEN School!

We are an SEN school in Effingham seeking a motivated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team. We offer a rewarding opportunity to work with autistic students aged 11-16, who have associated behavioural and communication difficulties, in a supportive and stimulating setting.

What we offer:

  • £12.99 - £13.89 per hour (£23,210 - £24,818 actual salary) depending on qualifications.
  • £1000 Welcome Bonus
  • Term-Time only position (40 hours per week)
  • Structured working hours:
  • Monday-Wednesday: 8:15am - 4:45pm
  • Thursday: 8:15am - 5:00pm
  • Friday: 8:15am - 4:00pm

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students in line with school policies.
  • Providing positive behaviour support and adapting your approach to meet individual student needs.
  • Building strong and trusting relationships with students, creating a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Promoting independence and personal development in our students.
  • Supporting the teacher in implementing engaging and differentiated learning activities.
  • Preparing resources and adapting learning materials under the teacher's guidance.
  • Contributing to a dynamic and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.
  • Participating in the school's behaviour support approach, including physical intervention (accredited Team Teach) where necessary and always as a last resort.
  • Completing reports accurately and within designated timeframes.


Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (SEN) in an employed or voluntary setting.
  • A recognised qualification at Level 2 or above in Support work for Teaching and Learning in Schools (or equivalent) is desirable.
  • GCSE Maths and English Language qualification minimum Grade 4 (or equivalent) is essential.
  • A strong understanding of Safeguarding principles and Child Protection procedures.
  • Knowledge or experience of working with pupils with SEN or SEMH/ASD.
  • A proven ability to provide consistent support to children with diverse needs.
  • A child-centered approach, treating each student as an individual and valuing their unique strengths.
  • A positive and creative approach to meeting pupils' individual needs.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate clearly with colleagues.
