You will provide clinical leadership and expertise in Oncology by providing information, support, advice and specialist knowledge to patients, their families, and carers. You will act as an expert resource, assess, contribute, and deliver education to patients/carers, medical, nursing, AHP and social care colleagues and students, including primary and community care teams.

You will participate in the co-ordination of oncological patient care to ensure continuity throughout the patient’s care pathway and be pivotal in review and development of the service, and to reflect the needs of the patient group. You will liaise closely with the health care teams of inpatient wards, outpatient department and primary care, including Consultant Physicians and GP’s.
• Operate autonomously at an advanced level of clinical practice, providing research-based expert care and advice to all colleagues and managing a caseload effectively, making the most of available time.
• Respond to telephone enquiries and assess patients, co-ordinate admission or changes in appointment dates, as warranted, by the patient’s clinical condition. Including the operation of an emergency telephone helpline for patients receiving Oncology treatments.
• Monitor side effects and discuss appropriate changes and alternative therapy/treatments with the relevant Consultant or GP.
• Work closely with Oncology CNS team, Oncology Consultants, Lead Chemotherapy Nurse, Macmillan Unit Manager, Lead Cancer Nurse, Head of Nursing, Service/Occupational Manager. Maintain professional relationships with patients, relatives, and all members of the MDT.
• Act as the patient’s advocate during treatment choices.
