Summary


Healthcare Assistant, Band 3

A great opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Healthcare Assistant to join the diverse team in Treatment Centre, which is an expanding unit undergoing an exciting renovation. Treatment Centre is a busy unit with seven operating theatres, offering day-case surgeries and overnight stays for elective and trauma surgery patients. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a minimum of one year’s experience in a hospital ward/inpatient setting.

· Provide high quality clinical care to patients, in line with the Trust values and in accordance with professional regulations

Accept delegated responsibility for specific activities/areas from the lead nurse

Clinical
• · To have knowledge of the medical equipment required, and to ensure this equipment is always available and in good working order
• · Use clinical standards to participate in the process of monitoring the quality of care delivered. Act to ensure that nursing practice is of the highest standard, in line with Trust and CQC standards.
• · Assist with the evaluation of care and initiate any action required, for example liaising with the multidisciplinary team as appropriate.
• · Undertake any reasonable and relevant clinical or non-clinical functions commensurate with their banding
• · Recognise and act on situations that may be detrimental to the health and well-being of the individual
• · Report accidents, incidents and losses, in line with Trust policy
• · Take on extra duties/responsibilities as delegated and agreed by the Senior Sister / Matron within their capability/limitations.

• · Work with members of the team implementing a quality approach to service provision, in line with Trust Quality Care Standards
• · Report all complaints, incidents or accidents to the Lead Nurse and take appropriate action

• · Be responsible for, and demonstrate personal professional development, maintain up to date clinical skills and ensure mandatory training is always current
• · Ensure own appraisal is up to date


Communication
• Ensure that communication is effective between the patient, relatives and members of the multidisciplinary team
• · Ensure communication is used effectively in the interest of patient care, including the use of clinical incident reporting if necessary
• · Demonstrate politeness, courtesy and sensitivity in dealing with patients/clients, visitors/relatives and colleagues, maintaining good customer relations and recognising individuality and rights for each patient in line with Trust Values
• · Work cohesively with all members of the breast team in ensuring that the very best services are provided to patients at all times
• · Work effectively within a diverse environment
• · Ensure all communication, which may be complex, contentious or sensitive, is undertaken in a responsive and inclusive manner, focusing on improvement and ways to move forward
• · Ensure all communication is presented appropriately to the different recipients, according to levels of understanding, type of communication being imparted and possible barriers such as language, culture, understanding or physical or mental health conditions
