Based in Liverpool with international travel
Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate to join the Health Systems and Workforce Strengthening Unit (HSWS) within our leading International Public Health Department.
Our mission is to strengthen health systems and promote the development of the health workforce in the Global South for equitable access to quality health care. We do this through robust and innovative research, education and capacity strengthening for the co-production and application of knowledge with policy makers, academics, practitioners and communities.
The successful post holder will work across several programmes held by the HSWS unit including the FCDO-funded ReBUILD for Resilience multi-country consortium and the NIHR-funded health workforce and climate crisis project (Nepal and Zimbabwe).
Key accountabilities include:
Liaise with and provide technical input to partners in mid and low-income countries in primary and secondary data collection and analysis, report writing, and quality assurance
Publish the research findings in peer reviewed academic journals, and develop other outputs as part of research communications strategies
Work with colleagues to develop LSTM’s research agenda on health systems, and in particular human resources for health
Assist with grant proposals on health systems and human resources for health research
Contribute to the LSTM teaching portfolio on health systems and human resources for health
Analyse data and draft sections of reports for funders and external collaborators
Produce and disseminate research outputs
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
PhD in health or health-related social science discipline including a research skills component
Designing research, applying for ethical approval, carrying out data collection field work and analysis of data sets in low and middle-income countries
Experience of working to health and safety regulations and legal requirements
Applied research skills relevant to health or health-related social science including qualitative and quantitative research methods
Excellent skills for producing academic products including ability to write clearly
Computing skills for quantitative and qualitative data analysis
