A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.
Not sure what to do in August 2025?
Keen to gain more experience in Medicine with a friendly team that is interested in your development as a doctor before deciding on your next career move?
Are you interested in teaching?
Would you prefer to reduce your out-of-hours commitment and not have to work ‘nights’?
UHBD are looking for motivated, enthusiastic doctors to join their Trust. A busy, progressive, forward thinking Trust, we have been successfully recruiting to these posts for 8 years and would like you to join our consultants and teams working in Specialist Medicine.
Posts are available at 2 sites – Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital Burton.
In conjunction with the wider medical team, your main duty will be day to day management of medical in-patients.
We would also like to offer you opportunities to increase your out-patient experience, build upon the skills you already have, learn new procedures and work in our friendly departments. There are opportunities to teach, perform Quality Improvement Projects and be part of our innovative teams.
You will receive educational and clinical supervision, £500 study leave budget (pro rata) and 5 days study leave (pro rata), access to an Eportfolio and be encouraged to join the weekly teaching programmes. Subject to individual requirements, there may be scope to attend ALS or IMPACT courses and we will facilitate your annual appraisal.
As a trusted organisation at the heart of our communities, we recognise the important role we can play in supporting the public, patients, our own people and local partners in achieving the best of health for the local population and the communities in which they live by providing Exceptional Care Together
Our fundamental Values of Compassion, Openness and Excellence underpin how we intend to work as a Trust and the associated behaviours are becoming embedded in all aspects of how we work.
In return we will offer:
• Development opportunities, including both professional and leadership development
• On-going support through every step of the way from recruitment to when you join our team and beyond.
• A variety of other staff benefits including employee assistance programme, discounted gym membership, onsite fitness classes, car schemes
Key Facts about our Trust:
• We see on average 4810 OP appointments per day.
• We are the 4th busiest Trauma & Orthopaedic outpatients department in England – an average of 2077 per week.
• An average of 1115 patients are seen in A&Es across our network every day – 3rd largest in the country.
• Our hospitals admit an average of 195 emergency patients daily.
• Last year we undertook almost 33,700 planned surgical operations in our 57 operating theatres.
• We are one of only 7 Trusts nationally with more than 50 operating theatres.
• We carry out more than 140 elective procedures each working day.
The post holder will rotate through 3 attachments of 4 month duration. There will be a variety of posts to choose from within Specialist Medicine: Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Cardiology, Renal (RDH only), High dependency care (RDH only), Neurology (RDH only), Medicine for the Elderly and Stroke Medicine.
The out-of-hours commitment includes a long day (Mon-Fri) every 3 weeks. In addition, there will be 1 in 4 weekend ward cover from 0800-1700 or 1200-2030 only with compensatory rest. Nights are NOT a component of this post. There are numerous options for locum shifts within Acute Medicine and SMBU subject to the European Working Time Directive (EWTD).
Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice on application is essential.
Although not formal training posts and these are not accredited by Health Education East Midlands, we believe we can offer you good training in a busy, large hospital that has the benefits of a district general and the reputation of a teaching hospital.
Interviews will take place in person, at Royal Derby Hospital, on Monday 28th April and Friday 2nd May 2025.
If you are invited to interview, please ensure you book an interview slot as soon as possible.
Combined F3/Teaching posts are available (please see supplementary information). Should you be successfully appointed to an F3 Specialist Medicine post following interview on one of the above dates, and you are interested in the combined post, your application will be considered by a separate panel and if shortlisted, invited to attend a second interview on Microsoft Teams.
Please be aware that due to the high volume of applications received for these posts, we reserve the right to close this advert earlier than the given closing date.
This advert closes on Monday 24 Mar 2025
