Summary
This is a permanent Therapies Technician Post based at a 10 bedded level 1 unit (Thomas Young Ward) at St George’s Hospital. The post holder provides Occupational and Physiotherapy Technician sessions to patients in this clinical area with a range of psycho-social, physical and emotional problems including terminal illness, working in a rehabilitation setting.
Clinical:
This post forms part of a highly specialist neuro rehabilitation service at a 10 bedded level 1 inpatient rehabilitation unit at St George’s. The position is essential to meet the requirements of a very complex clinical caseload.
Therapy interventions provided are highly specialist reflecting level 1 rehabilitation and include physical, sensory,cognitive and perceptual rehabilitation interventions are completed as either 1:1 or group sessions. The postholder contributes to the intensity of rehabilitation provided.
Leadership/workforce management:
This post delivers activity in a service with clear specifications around intensity and specialism of rehabilitation as set out by NHS England over 7 days. Efficient and effective management of this highly complex caseload is required to not only optimise patient outcome but to alsoreduce length of stay in hospital and the costs of long-term care which can only be achieved through sufficient specialist staffing levels. Outcomes are recorded and compared nationally through the use of the UKROC.
This Therapy Technician post is a permanent post forming part of the level 1 inpatient rehabilitation team which covers a 10 bedded unit. Staffing levels for a level 1 unit have been clearly defined by NHS England and are integral to the meet the standards for quantity and quality of care provision.
On average this post delivers up to 30 face-to-face therapy sessions a week. It also contributes to the non-clinical tasks and hence the smooth running of the service/department
The postholder contributes to the seven-day service across neurosciences which has a direct impact on patient flow and reducing length of stay within St George’s Hospital.
