Summary
We are excited to offer a unique opportunity for a highly skilled and motivated physiotherapist to join our Oncology Physiotherapy team at Guy's Cancer Centre, covering a period of maternity leave.
Our Oncology Physiotherapy service is an integral part of the multidisciplinary team (MDT) providing comprehensive care to patients at all stages of their cancer journey—before, during, and after treatment.
This is a Band 7 position within the Breast Physiotherapy Service at Guy’s Cancer Centre. The successful candidate will play a key role within both the cancer Physiotherapy team at Guy's Hospital and the broader Rehabilitation Physiotherapy team, which includes Band 7 and Band 8 physiotherapists working across Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals.
This position offers a rewarding opportunity for professional growth, with comprehensive support to enhance your clinical management, leadership capabilities, and career development.
The role will primarily focus on our Breast Cancer pathway, involving advanced assessments and interventions for patients at various stages of their cancer care, from pre-surgery through to survivorship and beyond. The role aims to optimise physical function and facilitate rehabilitation alongside ongoing cancer treatments.
Beyond clinical duties, the successful candidate will assume day-to-day operational management responsibilities for their service and contribute to the broader outpatient Cancer Physiotherapy team at Guy’s.
The position also involves supervising and appraising staff, as well as providing undergraduate training. The candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing the development and research agenda for both the local and wider teams, and will take on department-wide responsibilities. Advanced communication skills and expertise in offering rehabilitation and symptom management advice for acute oncological issues will be essential, alongside the promotion of long-term management strategies for cancer-related effects.
Applicants should have experience working at a senior level within the NHS. This role presents an excellent opportunity for a current Band 6 or Band 7 clinician seeking to further develop their clinical and managerial skills, with support from Consultant Physiotherapists in Cancer and the wider Rehabilitation Service.
At Guys & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, we are committed to providing you with:
• Professional expert advice, including access to our Professional Leads in our Community and Hospital settings
• An annual appraisal and personal development plan (PDR)
• Structured in-service development programs and regular supervision
• Support to undertake research, audit and service evaluation
• Training links to London Southbank and King’s College Universities
• Support to develop your skills in preparation and presentation (for teaching)
This excellent opportunity is ideal if you’re wanting to progress into a senior role or consolidate and develop further in your career.
Please see attached the job description and person specification documentation for further information on the role and its requirements.
