Role Purpose

Scottish Borders Council is seeking a Roads Operative to join our Roads Surfacing team based at Newtown St Boswells roads depot. This role plays a vital part in maintaining and improving the local roads network, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services across the Scottish Borders.

As a Roads Operative, you will be responsible for supporting the provision of an efficient and effective service in line with planned schedules. Duties include but are not limited to:
General roads maintenance (e.g., surfacing, patching, kerbing, drainage, and surface dressing works)
Operating machinery, equipment, and vehicles safely and effectively
Engaging with the public in a professional and courteous manner
Working collaboratively within a team to ensure work plans are met
We are looking for individuals with:
Experience in roads maintenance or site work
A full UK driving licence
Certification for relevant machinery and plant use (e.g., Lantra, NPTC, CSCS, CPCS, or NPORS) or willingness to obtain it
A strong understanding of health and safety requirements in the workplace
The ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently

A C1 + E or C class license would be desirable

Essential

A basic education (Numeracy and literacy)
Certified relevant machinery and plant use qualification/s (i.e. Lantra certificates, NPTC, SVQ 1, CSCS, CPCS or NPORS cards) or obtained within reasonable timescales

A current driving licence and use of a vehicle is an essential requirement of this post.
