Summary

To participate in the promotion of child and family centred care and establish and maintain a supportive relationship with the child and their family/carer during the period of treatment and care within the speciality. Ensuring that the rights, dignity and confidentiality to the child are protected at all times. To demonstrate appropriate expert practise and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for the child, family and carer. To participate and assist with the multi-disciplinary team in resolving patient problems as required and reflecting the wishes of the child and their family. To work to the agreed child protection policies, and to participate in the child case conferences. To support, mentor and supervise student nurses, medical students and other health care professionals. To support and enable children and families/carers to make informed decisions relating to their treatment and management. To provide high quality clinical care and support the clinical development of Paediatric Diabetes specialist service by ensuring the use of evidence based practice and clinical standards within the childrens diabetes service. To provide professional support and clinical guidance to nursing staff and other staff from other agencies. To participate in the implementation of new methods and practices in relation to the care of children and adolescents with diabetes within the agreed protocols. To contribute to audit and research activities within the specialist unit and in collaboration with colleagues. To attend outpatient clinics, co-ordinate treatment and individualised nursing care and health education. To promote and deliver high standards of care at all times, which utilises research-based evidence To participate in education and training programmes and develop training packages as required. To demonstrate continuous evaluation of own practice and make changes where appropriate within the defined speciality. Managerial Ensure delivery of care is in accordance with Trust policies, procedures and guidelines. Monitor the needs of client group in order to formulate the strategic and operational development of the service for the children and young people with diabetes. To participate in the implementation of change in response to clinical and organisational demands and inform the manager of concerns and deficiencies that may affect patient care. Report and record untoward incidents and complaints in line with the Trust policy.
