More detail about the role Clinical & Radiation Physics provides scientific support services to users of ionising radiations including X-Ray, CT, and Nuclear Medicine, as well as non-ionising radiations such as UV and Ultrasound. Alongside your studies you could be working on testing x-ray equipment performance one day, carrying out a radiation safety assessment the next day and calibrating equipment used for UV treatments on another. The role will be based at the Royal Devon, eastern site in Exeter but will involve work at the various sites across south, east and north Devon to which medical physics services are provided, including community sites and non-NHS sites. The post holder may be required to work outside standard working hours to enable them to make the most of their training and participate fully in the service delivery. Applicants should be numerate, computer literate and must meet the entry requirements for the degree course at the University of West of England in Bristol. This currently requires 96 UCAS points including at least one A-level Grade C or above in a relevant STEM subject such as physics, engineering and mathematics. Plus GSCE Grade C(4) or above in English Language, Mathematics and Double Science. Alternative qualifications may be accepted, subject to the UWE admissions process. Applications may be considered from candidates with a lower UCAS points score who can demonstrate extensive and relevant work experience. You will undertake a fully funded, professionally accredited BSc (Hons) Degree qualification in Healthcare Science (Medical Physics Technology) specialising in Radiation Physics. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship you will be eligible for entry on the professional register for clinical technologists (RCT). There may be an opportunity to join the department permanently at the end of your training but in any case, your new-found skills as a clinical technologist will be in high demand as there is a national shortage of trained staff. This post will be commencing September 2025. Salary will be paid at agenda for change band 5 annexe U/21 and the starting salary will be £23,713 per annum, based on 37.5 hours per week. The salary rises to £25,538 in year 2 then £27,362 in year 3, based on 2024/25 salary scales. When you successfully complete the apprenticeship, the starting salary for a qualified band 5 post is currently £29,970 per annum.
