Summary

A rare opportunity has arisen for a Stockperson/General Farm Worker to join the Scottish Government Rural Payments and Inspections Division Bull Stud Farm based at Knocknagael, Inverness.

The Farm team consists of a full-time Farm Manager, full-time Deputy Farm Manager, one full-time and one part-time Stockpersons.

The purpose of the Stud Farm is to provide high quality bulls for the Crofting Cattle Improvement Scheme. Approximately 140 Pedigree beef bulls of various breeds are maintained with the majority going out on hire to crofting Townships throughout the Highlands and Islands over the summer months. The remainder are maintained on farm as replacements. The bulls are overwintered at the Stud in a purpose built, high bio-security facility. Cereals and rotational grass are also grown on the farm to provide winter feed and bedding.

The role of the Stockperson/General Farm Worker will involve undertaking routine farm duties, including some weekends (on rota), to ensure the seven-day operational delivery of the farm and the Crofting Cattle Improvement Scheme.

There will be a farm cottage available for the successful candidate, if required. The cottage is located at Knocknagael Farm, adjacent to the main farm buildings.
