Summary

McGinley are seeking an experienced Site Chargehand to lead a construction gang in the delivery of high-quality cycle paths. This role requires hands-on leadership, ensuring work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to the highest standard. You will be responsible for coordinating a small team, managing daily site activities, and liaising with site managers to ensure project deadlines are met.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and lead a team.
  • Oversee the installation of cycle paths, including excavation, drainage, kerbing, and surfacing.
  • Ensure work is completed in line with project specifications, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Coordinate materials, plant, and equipment to maintain productivity.
  • Conduct daily briefings, toolbox talks, and risk assessments.
  • Liaise with engineers, site managers, and other contractors to ensure smooth project delivery.
  • Identify and resolve on-site challenges to keep the project on track.
  • Maintain accurate records of work progress, materials used, and workforce hours.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience as a Site Chargehand, Foreman, or Lead Groundworker.
  • Strong background in civils, groundworks, drainage, kerbing, and tarmac laying.
  • Ability to read and interpret site drawings and specifications.
  • Gold CSCS Card (or relevant supervisory qualification).
  • SSSTS or SMSTS certification (preferred).
  • First Aid at Work certification (desirable).
  • Experience operating or supervising plant machinery (dumper, roller, excavator) is an advantage.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
