We are seeking a highly motivated individual to work with others to deliver a task & finish style project looking to deliver a fundamental review of how we regulate the Anaerobic Digestion (AD) sector and propose or make changes to help support government ambitions to deliver an expanded AD sector while addressing and minimising environmental impacts from the sector to ensure it is sustainable.
You will be expected to review specific elements of the AD sector including the currently un-regulated crop fed AD. Assessing and developing improvements to the regulatory regime to support transition to a suitable permitting and compliance regime.

You will conduct a thorough review of all relevant Appropriate Measures and BAT guidance for the regulatory framework covering the sector and where needed propose and deliver solutions where improvements are needed. For example, gas management from AD plant.

You will work with stakeholders and deliver specific guidance for various areas of AD regulation such as for crop fed AD plants and gas clean up technologies

You will need to be able to manage your own time and work in a robust fashion alongside others including a wider range of stakeholders to deliver many elements of the project on a collaborative basis.

You will be expected to support others outside of the Environment Agency tasked with reviewing or developing standards that also support sustainability across the sector. Such as supporting the development of accredited standards.

You will work closely with regulatory sector officers to develop any additional information they need to carry out their regulatory role.
The team
You’ll join our national Biowaste team within the wider Waste Treatment and Transfer team, working with a wide range of area and Government policy teams ensuring the anaerobic digestion sector is sustainable and maximises its impact on reducing emissions from the energy sector.

Experience/skills required
In your capability-based answers please demonstrate your:
• Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
• Knowledge of the anaerobic digestion (AD) sector from an operational perspective
• Knowledge of the regulatory system currently in place to regulate the sector and awareness of some of its strengths and weaknesses.
• Ability to think creatively to design a future regulatory framework that would help drive and deliver a more sustainable AD sector of the future
• You will have a demonstrable track record of delivering work focussed outcomes
• Experience delivering similar project style pieces of work is desirable but not essential
• Ability to work to deadlines and tight timescales
• Experience of working collaboratively to deliver goals is desirable.
