Birmingham’s Grand Hotel on Colmore Row is housed in one of the city’s most iconic buildings.

The Grand Hotel features 185 bedrooms and extraordinary suites, a glamorous cocktail bar, a buzzing New York style restaurant, and eight magnificent meeting and event rooms - as well as the spectacular, Louis XIV-style Grand Ballroom.

Junior Sous Chef

The kitchens at the Grand Hotel are a hive of chefs using their culinary flair to create appetising dishes for all our guests. As Junior Sous Chef you will be a key team player in the kitchen, helping to ensure the effective running of the department.


What you will do

• Motivate the team by leading from the front with confidence; being dynamic and positive at all times
• Assist the senior chefs in the planning, organising and control of day-to-day operations of the department thereby ensuring the established standards of performance are maintained and total customer satisfaction is achieved
• Supervise the work of the team, allocating special duties and responsibilities
• Assist the senior chefs to supervise all food preparation and production
• Stay informed about and prepared for all business-on-the-books and their catering requirements
• Remain totally customer focused by consistently delivering excellent customer service with an informed, friendly and effective approach

Ideal candidate

• Strong leadership skills
• Experience working within a busy kitchen in a similar role is essential, and it would be advantageous for this to have been in a hotel kitchen
• We are looking for someone with a real passion for food and the drive to succeed in a new role
• Outstanding hygiene skills are essential
• Certificate in elementary food hygiene would be desirable
• Due to the nature of the work, the ideal candidate would be fully flexible in their approach to work and be able to work shift patterns through weekdays and weekends
