Summary

Main duties and Responsibilities COMMUNICATION Provide effective communication to ensure a cohesive team approach to the family centred care. Provide all grades of staff with the opportunity to generate new ideas for the improvement of the services provided. ANALYTICAL SKILLS Ensure that all planned care is evidence based/best practice. Monitor and develop standards of nursing care within the Clinical Governance Framework. Ensure the Trust policies and procedures are understood and adhered to, providing guidelines for junior staff whenever necessary. Demonstrates professional accountability underpinned by the rules of the NMC, ensuring that these are applied consistently. Continuously develop clinical role to ensure effective care is delivered within specialised areas of work, as determined by the ward needs. PLANNING AND ORGANISATIONAL SKILLS Counsel, appraise and give guidance and support as required. Undertake delegated responsibility for specific areas of operational management Oversee day-to-day activities and staffing issues in relation sickness absence and skill mix. Compile duty rotas for staff. PHYSICAL SKILLS The positioning of patients and equipment for treatments from chairs to beds, cots and trolleys using manual handling equipment provided. Movement of equipment. RESPONSIBILITY FOR PATIENT/CLIENT CARE Undertake a comprehensive assessment of care needs and the development implementation and evaluation of family centred programmes of care and the setting of standards. Develop a clinical expertise in all aspects of care within area of work; be competent in the administration of intravenous medication,. Education of patients/families to empower them to provide self-care. RESPONSIBILITY FOR POLICY/SERVICE DEVELOPMENT Ensure that Trust policies and procedures are understood and followed by junior staff. To cooperate with policy development and implementation within the department as directed by senior management. RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL AND PHYSICAL RESOURCES To contribute to the effective utilisation of resources and oversee the procurement of stock items and reduce wastage. Ensure maintenance of equipment is in date and arrange with necessary services to carry out work. RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES Return to work interviews, Informal sickness review, PDR for junior staff Oversee the student placements ensuring mentors and assessors are up to date and monitor assessors portfolio as part of triennial review through PDR process. Undertake training for the ward staff. RESPONSIBILITY FOR INFORMATION RESOURCES Take on audits, both locally to the unit and trust wide. Collection of data, interpretation and presentation at clinical governance and departmental meetings. Oversee and ensure record keeping is consistent and maintains confidentiality. RESPONSIBILITY FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT Promotes evidence practice by: - Disseminate relevant research findings to staff. Encouraging and acting as a resource person for staff who are interested in undertaking research projects. Advising and assisting with writing evidence-based nursing standards, procedures and policies. Contribute to evaluation of project.
