Horticulturalist Fixed Term
Qualifications and Experience:
Good level of general education with basic numeracy and literacy. Some experience gained through volunteering or work experience placement is desirable. Ideally the post requires knowledge and working experience of gardening specifically related skill to produce (fruit and vegetables).
Accountability and Responsibilities:
Horticulturalists will be responsible to Senior Horticulturalist or a delegated person, nominated and agreed by the Fyne Futures Board. Horticulturist will commit to learning and development activities that increase their knowledge and skills of food production. Horticulturists will be responsible for following instructions that ensure their safety whilst undertaking functional duties. Horticulturist will at all times be respectful and helpful to the community we serve.
Main Objectives of Post
• To support production of an annual crop plan
• To understand and develop competence behaviours that will enhance opportunities of sustaining employment
• To implement and provide effective operational delivery of the various activities undertaken by Bute Produce
• To gain a thorough understanding and working knowledge of Fyne Futures goods and services
• To ensure compliance of Fyne Futures policies and processes
The main job activities are as follows:
• General horticultural activities, the list below is not exhaustive
o Grow, pick and harvest crops
o Process fresh products
o Monitor crops for pests and diseases
o Monitor growing environment for temperature, light, and moisture
o Apply fertilizers and plant feed
o Meet production targets
• To adhere to Health, Safety and Wellbeing requirements and work to ensure high level of H&S awareness is maintained.
• To undertake training as required by the needs of the post
• To carry out other such duties and responsibilities as may be required form time to time by the line manager.

Hours:
35 hours week within Monday – Friday 8.30am – 5pm operating hours
You may be required to work Saturdays, Public and Bank holidays with the exception of Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, 2nd January.
Salary:
Real Living Wage, paid monthly
Holiday:
231 hour per year including statutory entitlement (pro-rata for post)
