We are welcoming application for the role of Consultant Biomedical Scientist , to join the current team, which is comprised of six substantive consultants.

The post is full-time, although any candidate unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post.

The candidate will carry out a variety of complex analytical procedures on a range of clinical specimens and will make interpretative judgements using post graduate level knowledge of histopathology including focused knowledge of a specific tissue speciality e.g. Dermatopathology.

Contribute to the histology workload of the department by reporting histopathology cases using the current LIMS to enter and authorise pathology reports.

Interpret and report the microscopic histopathology of a full range of specimens at consultant level in your specialist area to arrive at independent diagnosis.

Refer cases for specialist opinion when outside your own area of competency.

Take joint or sole responsibility for leading the pathology contribution to one or more cancer multidisciplinary team meetings.

Liaise with medical staff and clinical teams in specified specialities according to individual qualifications, and other postgraduate activities of the trust.

Participate in the teaching, audit and other professional activities of the department including internal and external quality assurance programmes.

Participate in departmental and trust clinical governance programmes to ensure that the clinical governance needs of the organisation are met.

Participate in the Royal College of Pathologists' continuing professional development (CPD) programme, or equivalent.

Participate in regular job appraisal processes, both as an appraiser and appraisee.

Participate in relevant management meetings and contribute to the strategic planning of the department and organisation.
