Are you passionate about supporting people with mental health challenges and reducing social isolation? We are looking for a dedicated Compeer Befriending and Hub Support Officer to play a key role in our befriending programme and community hub.

In this role, you will support Compeer, our in-house befriending programme, by ensuring that volunteers and participants build and maintain strong, supportive relationships. You will also contribute to the running of our Finchley Hub, fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment where people can connect, participate in activities, and access practical support.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real impact in people’s lives by promoting social inclusion and wellbeing.

This post is fixed term, initially for 3 months with a possible extension and will be working up to 30.5 hours across the week, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at our Finchley hub.

Key Responsibilities

Compeer Befriending Programme

  • Support and check in with matched Compeer befriending pairs.
  • Process and log volunteer reports.
  • Attend allocations meetings to discuss and process new referrals.
  • Interview and train new Compeer volunteers.
  • Facilitate matches between volunteers and service users.

Hub Support

  • Create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for hub members.
  • Support with the daily lunch service.
  • Co-facilitate groups and community activities.
  • Collect payments from members upon arrival.
  • Provide on-the-spot practical support to members as needed.

General Duties

  • Build positive relationships with service users, volunteers, and colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate records on our client record-keeping system.
  • Raise any safeguarding or welfare concerns.
  • Uphold confidentiality and best practices in service delivery.
  • Support with administration and organisational tasks as required.
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience working in a service delivery setting.
  • Experience working with and supporting volunteers.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Excellent IT and administrative skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to engage and support people with mental health challenges.
  • Ability to manage challenging situations with empathy and professionalism.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in the mental health or charity sector.
  • Experience in volunteer or paid recruitment.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and confidentiality best practices.
  • Familiarity with the Jewish community and its cultural needs.
  • Experience working with young people or vulnerable adults.
