Summary


We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 8a Superintendent Sonographer to join our friendly and well-supported team.

This role is required to oversee the delivery of the general ultrasound service (including general, MSK, gynaecology and paediatric scanning) at St. George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The service is delivered across 4 sites and 25 ultrasound rooms with a team of approximately 25 sonographers. Though the main remit of this role is on service delivery the post holder will also be expected to perform complex examinations whilst maintaining a skilled workforce including training that workforce.

The post holder must be flexible, adaptable to change, prepared to embrace workforce developments and to contribute to an effective and efficient service, delivered through the highest standards of safe, kind and compassionate care.
• Based at St George’s Hospital, the post holder will also oversee the ultrasound departments at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Roehampton, the Nelson Health Centre and St. John’s Therapy Centre and involves the day-to-day operational running of the ultrasound service with a 30% clinical and 70% management split.
• The post holder will be responsible for the professional leadership and line management of all sonographers working within the service.
• The post holder will work as a specialised sonographer demonstrating a high level of clinical competence and understanding across a wide range of examinations, including a variety of complex clinical presentations. They will be able to demonstrate a high level of technical expertise whilst maintaining a high standard of patient care.
• Responsible for developing & implementing departmental clinical & procedural protocols and policies in consultation with the relevant consultants and senior managers.
• Lead on the clinical governance and risk management programme for ultrasound department.
• To assist with the management of the clinical workload within the department restructuring the service to respond to long and short-term demands. Ensuring the daily workload is organised in line with clinical priorities. Rearranging work lists in case of equipment failure and being responsive to the inconvenience caused to patients.
