Description
The Child Death Overview Panel Chair (SMG1) is an essential leadership role dedicated to the review and analysis of child mortality cases. This position requires a compassionate and knowledgeable individual who can facilitate discussions among diverse stakeholders to ensure a comprehensive understanding of child death circumstances. The Chair will lead a panel that includes healthcare professionals, social services, law enforcement, and community representatives, fostering a collaborative environment aimed at identifying patterns, learning lessons, and recommending effective interventions to prevent future tragedies. As the Chair, you will be responsible for guiding the Panel’s investigations, ensuring that all aspects of each case are thoroughly examined while upholding the dignity and sensitivity required in dealing with such profound topics. The role involves presenting findings and recommendations to relevant authorities and stakeholders, contributing to policy development, and engaging in community outreach to raise awareness on child safety and health issues. This is a pivotal role in advocating for children's welfare, facilitating training, and ensuring that appropriate systems are in place to protect vulnerable populations. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in driving system-wide improvements based on panel findings and community needs, ensuring that every child has the opportunity for a healthy and safe life.

Responsibilities
Lead and facilitate the Child Death Overview Panel meetings and discussions.
Review and analyze cases of child mortality to identify significant trends and patterns.
Ensure compliance with local and national child death review policies and procedures.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to gather insights and recommendations.
Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including health authorities and community organizations.
Develop and implement action plans based on panel recommendations to prevent future child deaths.
Engage in community outreach and education initiatives to raise awareness about child safety and health issues.
Requirements
Proven experience in child protection, healthcare, or social work.
Strong leadership and facilitation skills to guide panel discussions effectively.
Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills to review complex cases.
Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies related to child welfare and safety.
Experience in working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines.
